I do a lot of thinking while driving to work and back. Prior to around the iOS 7 (I don't know exactly when), I used to use the Voice Memo app to record my thoughts. This worked pretty well. I could easily record a series of memos without having to look at the phone. All I needed to know was where the record button was and keep my thumb nearby while I watched the road.
Since it was updated, it's been a lot harder to use (mostly) hands free. This is because:
1) The record button jumps around (it's in a different location when viewing recorded messages vs. while recording).
2) We now have a save dialog that wants me to type in the name of the memo.
a) Even if I don't provide a name and use the default "New Recording ##", the Save button for saving the name is in yet another location.
Because of the extra inputs being requests and the requirement to push buttons in different locations of the screen, I haven't been able to safely use this while driving, so I've mostly avoiding doing so....however, I really do miss using this functionality - it was great to help with short term memory loss, especially when my brain is running wild with ideas.
1) I don't know how to log a bug with Apple on this, so I'm posting here. My hope would be to enhance the Voice Memo app so that it can be used as hands-free as possible. When I use the app the way I used to, I'd often create about a dozen short memos per session.
2) I haven't yet surveyed other apps yet to see if there's a worthy replacement. If anyone has a good experience with a hands-free voice memo app, I'd love to hear about it.
P.S. I also tried looking for Config settings for the voice memo app to avoid having to name the memo and/or help keep the record button in one location, but I couldn't find any settings.
