Heart Rate sensor issue

Views: 519 Replies: 2
In the middle of my workouts, the heart rate sensor abruptly changes from high (correct) to low, and then back again. I don't have any tattoos that might interfere with the reading, and the watch is snug against my wrist. Anyone else having an issue?

Hi

Even under ideal conditions, Apple Watch may not be able to record a reliable heart rate reading every time for everybody. It may be the case, for example, that your skin perfusion (which can vary significantly from person to person) is too low to achieve consistently accurate readings.

I appreciate that your watch is fitted snugly against your wrist. For the best results, Apple suggests that you consider tightening your watch band before workouts and loosening it again afterwards.

It may also help to restart both your iPhone and your watch. Turn both devices off together first, then restart your iPhone before restarting your watch:

- To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off;

- To turn it on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

If the issuer persists, for more consistent readings, you may wish to consider pairing an external heart rate monitor / Bluetooth chest strap to your watch.

If you have not yet done so, it may help to update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software versions (presently iOS 9.2 and watchOS 2.1). Instructions for updating the software are available here:

- Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

- Update the software on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Unpairing and re-pairing your watch may also help to resolve any software-related issue.

Otherwise, if you would prefer to have your watch checked under warranty, contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available) or make a Genius Bar reservation:
