I suspect my phone is filling up with update files and caches, the type of thing you don't see but at one time ran in the background but has been superceded. Is there a way I can delete these files to regain disk space? I have a 32gb iPhone 4s.
A reset of all settings may do this, but I would suggest the space savings are minimal.
If you check Settings> General> Storage &iCloud Usage> Storage> Manage Storage you can see how your space is being used.
The easiest way to clear unused or corrupted files, such as video streams, is to Restore your device. Make sure you make a fresh iTunes encrypted backup first. How much space you regain depends on how many unneeded files are in the Other categor.
